Message : People say it's very expensive but it's not if you're gonna do it yourself. I've done my conversion under $3000 and no bullshit. I sold my NA engine for $1000 which I used it to buy my boost controller and JWT ecu..

: peop[p: if you just want a faster Z, sell yours and buy a TT. If you are competent and have the tools and resources then you can do it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you should do it. I have been working on the conversion process now for 10 months. I have been in no hurry, just taking my time getting all the parts together and gettting them at awesome prices BTW. But I am doing the conversion for a couple of reasons.

: : 1) This is the primary reason why I am doing this. I always wanted to build up a high HP car engine, but never had the means nor the right chassis as I owned trucks before the Z and I didn't make much money (student). But the main reason was becuase I wanted to go through the process of building the motor, turbos and intake plumbing (there is more to it than this but these are the biggest issues once you get past the monetary aspect).

: : 2) My Z is a slicktop. Automatically stiffer chassis AND 300lbs lighter than a TT chassis. Great for drag and auto-x.

: : 3) I have spent time and money on developing the engine data acquisition system I now have in place which monitors 8 vital engine sensors, controls boost and air/fuel ratios. Completely tunable beyond the aftermarket electronics available for the Z. This system needs a turbo motor to really jazz it up, otherwise it is although very cool, simply a very expensive monitor. So, with the turbo motor in there, it all starts to come together as one badd-ass beast.

: : 4) My Z is in perfect condition. You will not find a single dent on any panel or any stains, tears, or scratches on the interior. Giving up this car to search for a TT in the same shape would be nothing short of stupidity.

: : There are other factors involved too, I am looking forward to the whiplash accelleration the car will have (specially with an NA diff in there! Woo Hoo!), the people I get to show it to and the bit of bragging rights that come along with it.

: : I have thoroughly enjoyed the conversion thus far - all the way from rebuilding the turbos myself to assembling the longblock. A few hurdles along the way, which is to be expected, but nothing as a terribly major setback.

: : Just consider WHY you want to do it and ask if there is an easier way to achieve that. If you are just looking for a fast Z, buy a TT. If you are looking for what I am doing, well, there is no other way other than to start parts shopping and be patient.
